Welcome to Soup to Nuts, a company that provides delectable and imaginative menus as well as event planning for events of any size and budget. We know there are many catering companies in the greater Washington area, but we believe we offer a unique experience, with highly personal attention, unusual creativity and food that is simply delicious, made from an exceptional recipe collection developed over decades.

I am Andrea Strauss Dettelbach, the principal at Soup to Nuts, and I have been cooking and organizing events and fundraisers for families, schools, non-profit organizations and companies for years. I learned tricks of the trade from the best, my mother Libby Strauss, who was a well-known chef in Miami and a food writer for The Miami Herald. As our company’s title suggests, I offer everything you might need for any occasion.

We are equally happy fulfilling small orders – a dinner or office party, for example – as we are planning a wedding, a bat/bar mitzvah for scores of people, or large holiday meals for family and friends. For each event, we will sit down and create an original menu and table or room design that is specifically tailored to your vision.

In addition, we can fulfill any last-minute requests, from meals of comfort to cookie platters for a pot luck.

Desserts are one of our specialties and we make cakes in any flavor and design – however unusual. From the White House (baked for a political editor of The Washington Post) to a football stadium (for a Superbowl party) to a Harry Potter shaped cake (for a child’s birthday party), we can provide delicious, specially themed creations. I have planned events in embassies, schools, gyms, synagogues, parks, public spaces, restaurants and, of course, homes. We are willing to design and help you execute events from 1-1000!
